Stay In The Mirror
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” James 1:22-25 New King James
The very simple way for us to keep the image of who we are in Christ crystal clear is to keep looking into the Word with the intent to do what it says. When we look into a natural mirror, we see all the details of what we look like. The longer we gaze, the more we see. The longer we gaze, the more aware we become of the details. If we take only a quick look and run away to do something else, we don’t see ALL the things that we need to adjust. That is how it is with the “mirror of the Word.” If we keep our eyes fixed, we get a clear picture of who we are. If things show up that are not representative of who we are, then we can both see those things and how to fix them so that we are in agreement in our minds and in our actions with who the Scripture says we are. If you haven’t, make the commitment to stay in the mirror; you’ll look better every day!
