Handling Tests and Trials

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

The word used for temptation is very simply defined as a test or a trial. Tests and trials come in various forms and their source is satan and this natural world, not the Lord. Tests and trials come to attempt to move us away from the will of God or to locate our faith and our vital position in Christ. They also arise out of unchecked lusts of the flesh (James 1:14). Satan wants to know where you stand and just how much he can get away with in your life. In dealing with them, we must do so according to the knowledge of the Word. The first and the last things we should know: they do not come from God (James 1:13) and there is always a way of escape. The part in between requires knowledge of the fact that we must rejoice at the onset of a test or trial. We are to count it all joy because we know the trying of our faith will produce patience, endurance, steadfastness, constancy, which will bring us to the place of being perfect and entire, lacking nothing. Not many of us are actually looking forward to tests and trials, however, when they come (and they come to ALL of us), we have to know how to deal with them according to the Word of God. If we follow the instructions from the Bible, we will overcome every test and trial that comes our way.

Scripture reading: James 1:2-4; Psalm 55:22
