“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.” 1 John 3:1-3
Jesus is coming! One of the major reasons for us to keep this in mind, as a hope set before us, is because of its purifying effect upon our lives. When our minds are focused on His coming, it keeps us alert to holy living, it is a “sin deterrent”, and it helps us to purify our lives. Why is that? One reason is because in our minds, we see ourselves being like Him when He comes; therefore we want to be like Him now so that we won’t be ashamed at His coming. To make it plain, it puts the fear of God in us! It causes reverence for Him to rise in our thinking and it keeps us at the business of the kingdom. We will find that we have no time for sin, sulking or aimless living which are major issues for people in the church right now. Let’s make sure that our focus is right so that we can help others do the same.
