Stability In Unstable Times
“And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.” Isaiah 33:6
The quality of being stable has always been a characteristic in which God could be known by. It is also a character quality that He has always intended for His people to portray as well. To be stable carries with it the ideas of being fixed and steady; constant and unchanged by the pressures or circumstances around it. We are living in very unstable times. People and things are changing all the time and it is to the detriment of mankind. When instability is rampant, trust is at a very low level. It is during these times that men and women, boys and girls, who are called by the Name of Jesus should be able to stand and shine as bright lights in the midst of this darkness of instability. According to our Scripture, wisdom, knowledge and the fear of the Lord are elements of a stable life. Proverbs 1:7 tells us that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” In Job 28:28 the Bible says that, “the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” The elements of a stable life that we mentioned above lead to the road called, “the fear of the Lord.” To fear the Lord, very basically, is to respect Him to such a degree that when He tells us to live life a certain way that we do it because we respect the fact that He is right and is looking out for our good. We believe that there are rewards for following Him and negative consequences for not following Him. A steady walk, every day, in the fear of the Lord is what brings one to that place of stability. The sin, evil, inconsistency and hypocrisy that are hallmarks of our times will not draw us into its current because of our stability. My brothers and sisters, let us aim at this. It just might end up being the one thing that, as seen in you by others, will bring them hope of some kind of trust being left in the world and it will bring them a practical picture of what the Father Whom we serve really looks like.
