“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew 24:12
The Scripture teaches us that there will be an abundance of wickedness in the last days. During this time a Believer will have to be on his guard against allowing his love to grow cold. This is very subtle. It can be compared to erosion. Over a period of time, because of periodical run off of water or the land, the soil in a particular place is just not what it once was. Some of it is gone. One day, one looks at the land and wonders what happened to it. It seems as if it just appeared. However, it had been happening for a long time. Over the course of time if a Believer doesn’t watch out, he can, by seeing constant sin and lawlessness, have his love grow cold. When sin abounds and many let go of righteous standards and the Believer watches these actions of others (especially if he sees a lot of it in the church) instead of the Word, He can begin to become cold and indifferent regarding his own love walk. The key to keeping this from happening is to keep one’s eyes on the Word and maintain one’s commitment to the Word, regardless of what anyone else is doing. Keep practicing loving others. Continue to practice forgiveness. Keep the flow of giving constant. Abound in well-doing and purpose not to grow weary. Committing to these things will keep your love from growing cold.
