“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what concord has Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
When a person comes to Christ, he or she has to realize that there are certain things and people that they must separate themselves from. No longer can you fellowship with darkness and its evil activities and influences. This doesn’t mean that you don’t talk to these people; they must be told about Jesus Christ and His love for them. It does mean that you cannot fellowship with them. There is a difference. Fellowship implies that your communion, friendship and sharing are based on common values and interests. The values and interests of someone walking in darkness are not pleasing to the Father. Yours now are, so you must begin to fellowship with Believer’s who have values and interests that come from the Word and heart of God. Love those people who are in darkness. Pray for them and if you are in a position to help them see the Jesus in you, do it. However, you can no longer “run with them.” You have a new crowd to hang out with-the people of God.
